T.P.O. Flat Roofing Installation

Thermoplastic Olefin (T.P.O.) Flat roofing is generally used on commercial properties. One of the main advantages of TPO roofing is that it's heat reflective and energy efficient. This is mainly due to its stark white color. TPO can be installed basically to any scale; some of the world’s largest buildings utilize TPO roofing systems.

It comes in strips typically 40 mils to 100 mils thick with 6-12 ft widths that are heat-welded on site. TPO combines polypropylene (plastic) and ethylene-propylene (rubber) to create a stable membrane that can last over 30 years. An advantage to TPO roofing is its price: TPO is often one the most economical option for a large, low slope roofing area.

Another distinct advantage to TPO membranes is the simplicity of repairs: you simply cut out the affected region and weld a new piece in its place. Thermoplastic materials are distinguished from thermoset materials in that there is no chemical cross-linking. These membranes can be repeatedly softened by heating or hardened when cooled. TPO sheets contain the colorant, flame retardants, UV absorbers and other proprietary substances to achieve desired physical properties.
